Chances of wheat lodging in different areas || Crop Reformer

Wheat crop sown during November 2022, is of 100-120 days at booting to earing stage but late sown crop of rice zone has still approached the booting stage now during the 3 rd fortnight of February 2023. Wheat lodging at booting stage may lead to production loss of 50 % or even more in some varieties. A loss of 30 % is predicted in case of lodging after earing or at initial milky stage.
In this video, we have suggested that we can minimize the risk of lodging through irrigation and fertilizer management. Irrigation management is more important at this stage. We have advised the farmers that any irrigation from booting stage of wheat to hard milky stage should be applied as very light, in accordance with the weather forecast, and before the initiation of wilting stage. Windy period should be skipped and every irrigation should be applied during calm weather particularly at night. Heavy irrigation especially in the loam soils may lead to lodging of crop even without windy weather. This irrigation must be applied at medium watter condition even before complete drying of soil moisture. Irrigation after more dry watter leads to earlier senescence/death of roots. Foliar spray of soluble potash is also helpful to develop stem stiffness in wheat. For this purpose booting stage is considered as the best for the application/flooding of soluble potash. It has also been explained in this video that submissive prey to Allah Taala is the most important tool to avoid wheat lodging.
